I watched the film back in 2017 when it first came out in the cinema and was really impressed with it. As with almost every film of Christopher Nolan's, it was very well crafted and excellently shot.

For this review, I rewatched the film this afternoon.

The area I was particularly impressed with was the way they took audiences from land, water and air so quickly and intensively. By doing this in a non-linear way, the story line only started to make sense near the end of the film. But i think this only added more to plot as it gave auidences time to really connect with the characters, the environments and for the director to build a very tense atmosphere. With many stories about war you can leave a film not really knowing people's stories but with Dunkirk I really felt connected with the lives of the characters. I was able to form a sort of mini-connection with them, that made me think past the film to the actual events of Dunkirk and the many lives that were lost but also saved.

I hope that my film could also have the same effect on people as they watch the harrowing experiences that my Grandad was forced through as a young man. I want people to form a connection to him.
